The nonprofit sector in the United States is an amazing gift to the community. No one owns a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit like the Jerome Lejeune Foundation USA. It is, rather, a partnership legally structured to provide a service to members of the community who have a particular need. It is a partnership between a board who has the responsibility of oversite, the staff who have the responsibility of executing the mission of the organization, and the community whose generosity makes it possible for the organization to carry out its mission.

We value our philanthropic partners. The amount of good that we can do in the areas of research, care, and advocacy for those living with Down syndrome, and other genetic intellectual diabilities, is directly proportionate to the investment they are willing to make in our mission.

We serve a vulnerable population. The investment our society has been willing to serve the needs of these individuals lags far behind their need, and far behind other groups with other diseases and disabilities. Down syndrome, for example, is the most common genetic cause of intellectual disability, but one of the most poorly funded by our National Institutes of Health - only about $19 million in the current budget, or around $76 per person annually. It is up to the nonprofit sector to provide valuable financial resources to serve this population of individuals and their particular needs.

If you aren't already, we encourage you to join our partnership. Tax-deductible contributions can be made by clicking on the "Donate" button at the top of your screen, by calling our office, or by sending a check by mail.

We have also made it easy to make a gift of appreciated securities to the Jerome Lejeune Foundation USA through Stockdonator.com.
