Return to GABA Transmission

Neurotransmitters: The transmission of messages between nerve cells is done by neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, norepinephrine or GABA (gamma aminobutyric acid). In Down Syndrome, there is an excess of GABA activity that we must thus reduce, and a lack of noradrenaline that we must stimulate.

Down Syndrome: Another term for Trisomy 21.

Norepinephrine: Another term for noradrenaline.

Neurobiology: The biology of the nervous system.
